Hope and Ambition Final Assessment
English 11

As a final assessment for this unit, because you all met your goal of bringing your book every day to class for this unit, you will have some choice as to the content you explore and the way you express your understanding of our essential question. Your primary goal is going to be to take a position and to defend your argument on the following question :

Is having hope harmful and naive or helpful and wise?
PART ONE : RESEARCH AND GATHER
In defending your position on this question, you will need to use three sources to explore your argument. I would like for you to use The Great Gatsby as one of your sources. After this, it will be up to you to find at least two other sources that will support your argument. Your source may be textual or digital, but you must be able to discuss each source in detail. We will do some work in class on how to choose strong sources.

PART TWO : DEFEND AND COMMUNICATE
After finding your sources, your next task will be to create a final product that communicates your understanding of your sources and clearly defends your argument. This is where you will have several choices in your finished product. You may choose from any one of the following options :
1) Make a Live Presentation of your sources and your argument to the class
2) Create a Video where you verbally present your sources and your argument
3) Create a Voicehtread on which you visually and verbally present your ideas
4) Create a Glog on which you visually and verbally present your ideas
5) Create a Visual Artifact (drawing, painting, scuplture) that symbolizes your argument in some way and accompany your visual with written explanation
6) Create a Written Defense of your argument in a structured argument essay
